Art Ache

Art Ache is a one night-only nationwide art event, structured partly like a musical gig with headlining artist and supporting acts. So far it has showcased over 60 New Zealand artists. The range of artists selected for the event come from different sectors, in order to amass a wider reach and to cross-pollinate their audiences.

Food is an important part of Moana communities and throughout my practice I often share this aspect with my peers and audience. These Samoan recipe books that were sold at Art Ache have a distinct aesthetic; my recipes are hand typed in red ink and on old a5 lined paper.

The contemporary tapa prints were created around the practice of malu (a Samoan tattoo that also means to shelter and protect) This is something I feel strongly connected to and created in hopes of manifesting protection over the homes in which these pieces now live. The traditional work is engaging with a personal and modern process in an effort to reflect my current world.
